Sangiovese-led blend and producer construction
The Grocery Store Wine verdict
Villa Antinori
Toscana Rosso
Villa Antinori costs $22.99–$28.99 in our checks. The family history is real, but the buy earns its place through a Sangiovese-led Toscana blend and careful cellar construction, not the name alone. Wait for the re-shoot if the exact vintage decides the value for you.

Our call uses physically certified package identity, producer and regional evidence, dated public ratings and current store-price context. Price never enters the GSW Score.
- You want a polished Tuscan red from a long-running family producer
- Sangiovese-led savory fruit suits the meal
- The bottle is near the low-to-middle part of our range
- You need the shelf vintage and exact blend before buying
- You want a narrower DOC or DOCG origin
- The price is close to $30 and prestige is not enough
Serve slightly cool, then let the glass warm enough to show its fruit and structure.
Match the bottle’s savory red weight, acidity and oak to the food, not to the label’s prestige.
Getting to know Toscana IGT.
Toscana IGT is meaningful regional origin at very large scale, not a promise of one village or soil. Producer sourcing, blend and cellar details have to provide the finer resolution.
What the name means
A protected geographical indication whose production zone spans Tuscany. Its rules allow broad regional sourcing and a wider variety set than any one Tuscan DOC or DOCG.
How grapes grow here
Tuscany moves from Mediterranean coastal conditions to cooler inland hills and mountain edges. Exposure, elevation and distance from the Tyrrhenian Sea create large differences inside the indication.
What lies under the vines
Clay-limestone, marine sediment, sand, alluvium and localized volcanic material all occur across Tuscany. The IGT name alone cannot assign one substrate to a finished wine.
How large the region is
- 2025 vineyard base
- The consortium reported 14,686 hectares in the category for 2025. well established
- 2025 production
- The consortium reported 649,053 hectolitres and about 83 million bottles, with red wine the largest share. well established
Places within the region
- Production zone
- The indication covers the administrative territory of Tuscany; a Toscana IGT label does not establish a narrower commune or vineyard. well established
- Hierarchy
- The category sits alongside Tuscany’s more geographically restrictive DOC and DOCG wines and gives producers broader blending latitude. well established

Taste
The producer says red fruit, vanilla and spice with supple tannins for the 2022 release.
Villa Antinori
Marchesi Antinori remains family managed, with the producer tracing twenty-six generations of family wine history.
Antinori traces its wine history to 1385. Villa Antinori Rosso was created in 1928 as a Chianti Classico and later moved to a Toscana IGT identity.
The producer presents Villa Antinori Rosso as a Sangiovese-led Tuscan blend, vinifying varieties separately before blending and barrel aging.
