What we make of this bottle
We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. That puts the weight on the name, and its broadest word is Italian. Regional guides make a plain point about that word: Italy is a country of origin, not a single wine place. Those guides note that Italian vineyards run from high Alpine ground through inland hills to islands in the Mediterranean, with no one climate describing them all, so "Italian red" by itself does not tell you the land behind the wine.
To get closer you need a narrower name, and the recorded product name gives one: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The producer, Cantina Zaccagnini, says Marcello Zaccagnini founded the winery in Bolognano, Abruzzo, in 1978, which names the town where the winery was founded even as the broad "Italian" label stays wide.
Price is the last piece, and the grape is the loose end, since we do not have a confirmed grape or grapes to report. In our September 2026 checks it sat between $17.99 and $28.99.
Cantina Zaccagnini today operates as part of ARGEA, an Italian wine group, according to the producer's own site footer, the first record we have of the winery's corporate ownership. The producer sells more than one Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC under different line names in its portfolio, and the captures could not confirm which of those lines this particular bottling belongs to, so no line-specific alcohol level, tasting note or winemaking detail is imported here.
Our call: reasonable if the founder's story, Marcello Zaccagnini opening the winery in Bolognano, Abruzzo, in 1978, and the recognized Montepulciano d'Abruzzo name on the label are enough for you; the winery itself is now part of a larger group, ARGEA, on record for the first time.
