What we make of this bottle
Most of Washington's vineyards sit east of the Cascade Range. According to regional guides, the range blocks much of the Pacific rain, leaving generally dry growing conditions with warm summer days and cool nights. By its own account, Chateau Ste. Michelle was established in 1967 in Woodinville as Washington's first premium winery. Our September 2026 checks placed this Riesling between $11.99 and $19.99. This is the Harvest Select, which the store listing files as a white dessert wine, made from a grape that guides say can run from fully dry to sweet.

Washington's founding winery
Chateau Ste. Michelle says it was established in 1967 as Washington state's first premium winery, built in Woodinville. The winery's own site also says the Wyckoff family bought Chateau Ste. Michelle in 2025, returning it to local ownership for the first time in 50 years.
