What we make of this bottle
Cloudline is a Pinot Noir. No shoppers have rated it with us yet, and the origin is not something we have confirmed.
Pinot Noir is a red grape with relatively thin skins. Category guides describe it as lighter in color and lower in tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, and they reach for red cherry and berry, noting that a wine's site and how ripe the fruit got can pull it toward the pale and delicate or the dark and full.
The importer, Dreyfus, Ashby & Co., calls Cloudline its own wine, grown out of the company's long work with Domaine Drouhin Oregon, with all the fruit drawn from low-yield vineyards in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In our September 2026 checks it started at $18.99.
In those same September 2026 checks the high we saw was $25.99. The Willamette Valley origin comes from the importer, and it is not a place we have confirmed ourselves.
The importer's product page for this bottle adds specifics its general brand description leaves out. Its technical data lists the wine as 100 percent Pinot Noir at 14 percent alcohol, with a quarter of the fruit sourced from Roserock Vineyard. The importer's tasting notes describe cranberry, cherry compote and hibiscus tea aromas with cracked pepper, and flavors of wild strawberry, pomegranate and red currant over what it calls “silky tannins and juicy acidity”. The Wine Advocate has scored the wine 90 points, calling it “easy to drink and a great value”, and the Wall Street Journal named an earlier vintage to its list of the ten best $20 red wines.
Our call: reach for it if outside critical acclaim moves you; the Wine Advocate scored this Pinot Noir 90 points and the Wall Street Journal named an earlier vintage among its ten best $20 reds. Pass if you weigh shopper ratings over critic scores or want the Willamette Valley origin independently confirmed; neither is available yet, so the importer's own word carries the technical detail.
