JaM Cellars says the name comes from its founders, John and Michele Truchard, whom it describes as second-generation Napa Valley vintners. The wine itself is a California bottling. At one of the stores we checked that same month, it was priced at $21.99.

We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. As for the glass, official category guides tie Sauvignon Blanc to gooseberry, green herbs, citrus and tropical fruit, and they add that cooler-grown fruit tends toward the green and citrus end while riper fruit can lean tropical.

JaM Cellars' own product page quotes a tasting line calling this bottle "refreshingly tropical," with "zesty key lime, pineapple, and papaya flavors" and a "clean finish," the producer's words. The page states the wine is stainless steel fermented at low temperatures, a choice the producer says is meant to keep the fruit's youthful character. The same page cites a score of 94 points and a gold medal from the New York International Wine Competition 2024. By the founders' own account, the Truchards built the company out from vineyard management roots in the 1990s before turning to what they call "super-approachable wines" under the Butter name; this Sauvignon Blanc joined that Butter lineup as the brand expanded beyond its original Chardonnay. One thing the producer's pages do not publish for this wine is an alcohol percentage, a blend breakdown, or an appellation narrower than California; that detail simply has not surfaced anywhere on the brand's site.

Our call: a reasonable pick if the producer's own gold medal from the New York International Wine Competition and a stated winemaking choice, a cool, stainless steel fermentation aimed at fruit character, are enough to go on; the producer's tasting language points at a bright, tropical style that matches the grape's usual range. Pass if you want a confirmed alcohol level or a named sub-region before you buy; neither has turned up on JaM Cellars' own pages, and no shopper rating has reached our record either.
