This bottle is a Cabernet Sauvignon. Our grape research describes it as a red grown across many wine regions, a variety that often builds firm wines and appears as a common part of red blends. What it gives in the glass varies more widely: regional authorities name black currant, cherry and plum among the fruits it tends to show, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak, and they say ripeness, climate and winemaking can shape it lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led.

Slow Press Wines places itself in Modesto, California, and says its grapes are certified sustainable under the Lodi Rules program. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. In the four stores we checked in September 2026, prices ranged from $11.99 to $14.99.

Slow Press's own product page adds appellation and process detail beyond the Modesto address: the fruit comes from the Lodi AVA, where the Mokelumne and San Joaquin rivers help keep daytime temperatures moderate for Cabernet. The producer describes a deliberately slow winemaking process built around three steps: a 48-hour cold soak before fermentation to draw out flavor gently, a soft first pressing, and fermentation at lower temperatures than usual, aimed at what the brand calls “the purest, most concentrated flavors”. Wine Enthusiast named the wine a Best Buy in both 2021 and 2022, its recognition for wines that combine quality with an affordable price.

Our call: a fair pick if price is doing most of the deciding, since this sits among the less expensive Cabernets we track and Wine Enthusiast has named it a Best Buy two years running. Pass if you want a producer story or a named estate to point to; Slow Press keeps its own account to winemaking process and a Lodi sustainability certification, without naming vineyards or founders, and no shopper rating has reached our record yet.
