What we make of this bottle
The thing about Merlot, as regional guides tell it, is that it can make a complete wine on its own or soften a Cabernet-led blend. It generally ripens earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon and leans toward a rounder structure, with less forceful tannin than Cabernet in many examples.
