What we make of this bottle
New Zealand is where Villa Maria began, by the company's own account, which dates its founding to 1961 under Sir George Fistonich. What the name actually promises, though, is a grape: Sauvignon Blanc, which our grape research describes as known for clear aroma and refreshing acidity, usually made dry, though sweetness and oak use vary. Official regional guides describe citrus, green herbs, gooseberry, and tropical fruit across the style, and add that cooler sites can lean green and citrusy while riper fruit can turn more tropical. We saw it as low as $13.99 in our September 2026 checks.
