Argyle Grower Series Chardonnay Oregon White Wine

Chardonnay is a grape that grape guides call one of the most adaptable whites there is, taking on the winemaker's choices, how much oak, how warm the fermentation runs, how long it rests before bottling, more than most grapes do, so the same variety can taste lean and citrusy in one glass and rich and toasted in the next. This label names Oregon's Willamette Valley and adds “Grower Series” to the Argyle Willamette Valley brand name. That series name is the piece Argyle's own site does not carry.

For the 2022 Willamette Valley Chardonnay, the producer states the wine is 100 percent Chardonnay from estate fruit, finished at 13 percent alcohol after eight months in French oak barrels, 10 percent of them new. Argyle's own vineyard pages name Spirit Hill and Giving Tree as its Chardonnay-planted estate sites, though the producer does not say which vineyard specifically feeds this appellation-wide bottling.

The producer cites several outside scores for that same 2022 release: 92 points and a “Best Buy” call from International Wine Report, and 91 points from Wine Spectator's Tim Fish, who described “snappy lemon, lime, orange blossoms” finishing “sleek, steely,” the critic's words as quoted on Argyle's own page.
