What we make of this bottle
Why does one Cabernet swing so much from shelf to shelf? In our September 2026 checks we saw this red priced as low as $20.99 at one store. It is a Cabernet Sauvignon from California, and our grape research describes the grape as one that often builds a firm wine, with dark-fruit comparisons and a noticeable grip of tannin.
Those same September 2026 checks found it as high as $37.99 elsewhere, so the store you walk into shapes what you pay. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. If more than one store near you stocks it, comparing prices before you shop is worth doing. Foley Family Wines says Banshee started in 2010 and later joined Foley Family Wines.
Banshee's own product page for this bottle gets more specific than a state-level origin: the appellation given is Sonoma Coast, and the blend runs 81 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Malbec, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, drawn from vineyards across Sonoma County, including Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Knights Valley. The finished wine lists 14.4 percent alcohol. On the wine's founding, the producer's own accounts disagree: Banshee's own site dates its start to 2009, in a bar in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood with borrowed capital and eight barrels of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, while Foley Family Wines, which now owns the brand, gives 2010 as the founding year.
Our call: worth a look if a Sonoma Coast blend with real sourcing detail appeals to you; Banshee names its vineyards across Dry Creek, Alexander and Russian River valleys and backs the blend with a full technical breakdown, more transparency than many bottles at this level offer. Pass if you want the crowd's confirmation or a stable price to plan around; no shopper rating has reached our record yet, and our August 2026 checks found this bottle priced quite differently from store to store.
