What we make of this bottle
The label calls this an Italian Pinot Grigio, yet Italy is a long country of many grapes and local traditions, where elevation, latitude and distance from the sea keep any one climate description from fitting the whole. Without a narrower name, such as a DOC or DOCG, the wine's exact corner of Italy goes unstated. The ownership, at least, is on record: The Wine Group says it launched Cupcake as part of its wine portfolio.
Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are two names for one white grape, and the spelling on a label often signals a style choice rather than a different grape. Official guides tie the grape to pear, apple and citrus, with sweetness that can run from dry to gently off-dry. The Grigio wording tends to point to the lighter, crisper end.
Among the white wines we track, this is one of the least expensive. We do not have a shopper rating for this bottle. In our September 2026 checks its price ranged from $9.99 to $15.99.
An update to the record above: the producer's own current product page for this bottle does list a narrower designation after all, Delle Venezie D.O.C. in Italy's Veneto region, which had not been confirmed when the first paragraph above was written. The same page credits the wine's fresh, mineral character to the region's alluvial and calcareous soils, and states the wine spends three weeks maturing on its spent yeast in stainless steel after a gentle press. Winemaker Jessica Tomei is named on the page, and the producer cites a 92-point "Best Buy" rating from Wine Enthusiast, a wine-media outlet, as outside recognition.
