Dr. Loosen's own site lists several dry, or trocken, Rieslings within its entry Gutswein tier: Blauschiefer, Rotschiefer and Knochentrocken among them, most listed at about 12 percent alcohol on blue- or red-slate soils in the Mosel. None of the estate's page copy names a bottling called simply 'Dry Riesling' that lines up with this label, so we cannot say for certain which of the producer's trocken wines this bottle is, or confirm its exact alcohol level from that source. The estate has stayed in the Loosen family for more than two centuries, the producer says, and Ernst Loosen has directed it since 1988.

Our call: worth a try if a strong early read is enough for you. The ratings on record so far are all at the top of the five-point scale, though the pool is still small, a start rather than a track record. Pass if you buy on a confirmed producer sheet; Dr. Loosen makes several dry Rieslings, and its own site does not name a bottling that lines up with this exact label.
