Faust Cabernet Sauvignon California Red Wine

The grape is Cabernet Sauvignon, and our grape research says Cabernet often makes firmly built wines and is a common part of red blends. Regional authorities point to black currant, cherry and plum as the fruit references to expect, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak. The same authorities note that ripeness, climate and winemaking can send the wine in very different directions, so those notes describe the variety in general rather than a taste we can promise for this bottle.

The name gives the origin only as California. Faust says its founders, Agustin and Valeria Huneeus, established the estate in 1998 on the former Lewis Dairy Farm in the Coombsville district of Napa Valley. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine.

In our September 2026 checks its regular price ranged from $59.99 to $87.99.

Faust's own online shop lists the current 2022 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon at $65 for a 750 ml Napa Valley bottle, a separate, dated figure from our own price checks, and gives the wine a full account: violets and toasted baking spice on the nose, black cherry and star anise on the palate, framed by what the producer calls “fine, chalky tannins.” The producer traces the fruit primarily to its own Coombsville vineyard, which it says sits in a volcanic caldera at Napa Valley's southern edge and runs roughly ten degrees cooler through the growing season than appellations further up valley; Estate Director Jen Beloz and Winemaker David Jelinek lead the winemaking. Faust also sells a separate, higher-tier Cabernet Sauvignon from the same vineyard called The Pact, so a shopper who sees that name on a Faust shelf tag is looking at a different wine from this one.

Our call: a reasonable pick for a shopper who wants the producer's own detailed account of an estate wine; Faust names its Coombsville vineyard, its winemaking team, and gives a full, dated tasting note for the current release. Pass if you want a shopper's opinion behind that account too; we have no rating on record for this wine, so every reason to buy here still comes from the producer alone.
