This red comes from Lodi. The name makes several promises at once: The Federalist, a red blend, and the word Honest besides. A wine that puts honesty in its own name invites a fair question about who is behind it, and the plainest answer we confirmed sits in an unglamorous spot, the terms and conditions of the brand's own website: Terlato Wine Group says there that it makes and sells The Federalist. We checked that statement in August 2026.
As for the blend itself, we could not confirm which grapes go into it or in what shares. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. Lodi combines warm inland days with cooling air through the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. Its old vines matter, but vine age must still be proved release by release.
What the name means
A federally recognized American Viticultural Area established in 1986, with seven nested subappellations.
How grapes grow here
Warm, dry days are moderated by evening Delta breezes moving inland through the Golden Gate gap. Rain falls mainly outside the growing season.
What lies under the vines
Deep alluvial fans, floodplains and terraces vary across the AVA, from sandy Mokelumne River ground to heavier and rockier eastern sites.
