It calls Cabernet Sauvignon a red planted in many regions, one that often makes firmly built wines and is a common part of blends, and lists black currant, cherry and plum among its common fruit references, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak. Ripeness, climate and winemaking can leave a Cabernet lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led, so the grape points a direction rather than fixing the taste. Imagery Estate Winery's own account traces back to 1985, when winemaker Joe Benziger partnered with artist Bob Nugent to set aside vineyard blocks “too character-rich to be swallowed up in bigger blends,” and opened a Glen Ellen tasting room in 2000. Joe's daughter, Jamie Benziger, has led the winemaking since 2017; Wine Enthusiast named her to its “40 Under 40 Tastemakers” list the following year. The winery's own vineyards page lists Cabernet Sauvignon among the grapes grown on its two named Sonoma County estate sites, Upper Ridge Vineyard and Sonoma Estate Vineyard, though the producer's site does not confirm which vineyard, if any, supplies this particular bottling.
