The key word in the name is Chardonnay, a white grape used for both still and sparkling wine. Official category guides have riper bottles leaning toward stone fruit and tropical fruit and cooler bottles toward citrus and apple, and they note that oak can add toast and a fuller texture when the winemaker goes that way. Across the five stores we checked in September 2026, the same wine reached as high as $17.99.

Noble Vines places the fruit in the San Bernabe sub-appellation of Monterey, California, which it describes as one of the state's coolest wine regions, and ties the '446' name to a specific vine selection that performed well in one particular vineyard block. The producer ages the wine in French and American oak for five to six months and lists the finished wine at 14.5 percent alcohol. Its own tasting notes point to pineapple, white peach and ripe Bartlett pear on the nose, with honeysuckle blossom joining those flavors on the palate, and describe a creamy mid-palate with a touch of minerality and a long finish, the fuller, riper style the oak brings out, in the producer's own account.

Our call: a fair bet for a shopper hunting a Chardonnay that raters place above the middle of the rated wines we cover while it stays toward the inexpensive end of the whites we track, backed now by Noble Vines' own account naming the Monterey vineyard and the oak program behind the label.
