What we make of this bottle
The name here leads with plenty: the house Ramos Pinto, the phrase Duas Quintas, a year and the word Douro. The producer's own vintage-specific technical sheet, titled Duas Quintas, Douro Red 2022, confirms 2022 as the actual vintage and names the blend: 56 percent Touriga Nacional, 23 percent Touriga Francesa, and 21 percent traditional Douro varieties, among them Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cao.
Douro is the part that holds up. Portugal's official wine guide treats the country not as one designation but as home to separate named regions, and Douro is among those names. That makes the most specific word in the name a recognized one, and the bottle behind it, which our September 2026 checks priced between $24.99 and $29.99, is sold as a Douro red. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine.
The maker's own account points to the same region. On its official site, Ramos Pinto dates a new era for the house to 1880, in Portugal's Douro region.
Ramos Pinto's vintage-specific technical sheet lists 13 percent alcohol, on the lower side for a Douro red, and the producer's 2022 harvest report explains why: an unusually dry year, with rainfall about half the prior year's, that left the grapes with less sugar than normal and lower alcohol and acidity, but more concentration. The finished wine ages in three vessels at once, the tech sheet says: 20 percent in French oak barrels, 30 percent in large oak vats, and the remaining half in stainless steel, about twelve months in total. The sheet's own tasting note describes aromas of spice and ripe cherry, with a velvety start and a structured, spicy finish, the producer's words.
Our call: this suits a shopper who wants a Douro red with real technical detail behind it, from the confirmed 2022 vintage down to the exact blend and how it aged; the producer backs the label with more documentation than most bottles on the shelf carry. Pass if a critic score or a shopper rating matters to you; Ramos Pinto's own awards list stops at earlier vintages, and no shopper has rated this one in our record yet.
