Our take

What we make of this bottle

The name here leads with plenty: the house Ramos Pinto, the phrase Duas Quintas, a year and the word Douro. What it never gets to is a grape; we have not confirmed one, and we have not confirmed 2022 as the vintage either, so we read that number as part of the product name.

Douro is the part that holds up. Portugal's official wine guide treats the country not as one designation but as home to separate named regions, and Douro is among those names. That makes the most specific word in the name a recognized one, and the bottle behind it, which our August 2026 checks priced between $24.99 and $27.99, is sold as a Douro red. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine.

The maker's own account points to the same region. On its official site, Ramos Pinto dates a new era for the house to 1880, in Portugal's Douro region.

Research status

What we are still checking

Our overview above draws on the dated store feed, shopper ratings, our region and grape research, and any sourced producer facts. We are still working to confirm the current release, the full producer record, and the bottle itself, and we update this page as we learn more.

Region guidePortugal

A little background helps this bottle make sense.

Getting to know Portugal.

A Portugal label places the wine in the country but does not identify one climate, grape or production rule. A named DOC, geographic indication or producer record is needed for a closer account.

The place

What the name means

Portugal is a country origin, not one protected wine designation. Its official wine guide separates regional names such as Vinho Verde, Douro, Porto, Dão, Alentejo, Madeira and the Azores.

Weather

How grapes grow here

Atlantic influence is strong in parts of the north and coast, while inland and southern regions can be warmer and drier. Portugal alone does not tell us which setting supplied a wine.

Soil

What lies under the vines

Granite, schist, limestone, sand and clay appear in different Portuguese wine regions. A country label cannot assign one of those soil settings to a bottle.

How large the region is

Origin structure
The national guide lists separate DOC and geographic-indication names rather than one Portugal-wide appellation.
Record scope
This guide covers country origin only. It does not replace a named Portuguese region or designation.

Places within the region

North
Vinho Verde, Trás-os-Montes and Porto and Douro are separate northern wine regions with different boundaries and conditions.
South and islands
Alentejo and Algarve are distinct mainland regions, while Madeira and the Azores have island origins of their own.
