What we make of this bottle
In our August 2026 checks, the price of this 750 ml bottle differed noticeably from store to store. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. The grape is the part we can describe. Cabernet Sauvignon is, in our grape research, a red that often builds firm wines and turns up frequently in blends, and regional authorities describe its typical fruit as black currant, cherry and plum, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak. The same authorities say ripeness and the cellar can shape whether the wine comes across lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led.
The winery's account does not vary by store: Stag's Leap Wine Cellars says it was established in 1970 with the purchase of its first vineyard. The shelf price, in those same September 2026 checks, ranged from $83.99 to $103.99. If two stores near you both stock it, a glance at each tag could pay off.
ARTEMIS is Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' name for this bottling, after the Greek goddess of the hunt, and the winery describes it as "the sum of Napa Valley's best Cabernet Sauvignon parts," blended from estate fruit and selected Napa Valley grapes to, in its words, "express the regional character of Napa Valley with the signature style of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars." The winery's own vintage archive shows recent blends built almost entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, 99.5 percent in the 2019 vintage with a splash of Cabernet Franc, given about 15 months with time in both new French and new American oak; those figures describe archived past vintages rather than a confirmed current release. One naming note worth stating plainly: this producer, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, is a separate winery from the similarly named Stags' Leap Winery a few miles away, under different ownership with its own estate, and the two names are easy to mix up on a shelf.
Our call: worth the premium if a stated blending philosophy and a real Napa pedigree, dating to the winery's 1970 founding, are what justify the price to you; Stag's Leap Wine Cellars describes ARTEMIS as its best Cabernet Sauvignon parts assembled into one wine. Pass if you want a shopper rating or the current vintage's exact numbers before spending at this level; neither is on our record, and the tech specifications we found describe archived past vintages, not a confirmed current bottling.
