We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. The grape, then, is the better guide to what to expect. Our grape research describes Cabernet Sauvignon as a red grown across many regions, one that often builds firm and is a common part of blends. Official regional guides cite black currant, cherry and plum as common fruit references, alongside noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak. The same guides say ripeness, climate and winemaking can leave a Cabernet lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led.

Joel Gott's own technical sheet for the current 2022 vintage lists this as a blend of California appellations, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lake County, Mendocino, Lodi and Central Coast fruit, all Cabernet Sauvignon, finished at 14.1 percent alcohol with 1.5 grams per litre of residual sugar, essentially dry. The producer ages the wine 16 months, about a third of it in new American oak, and says each vineyard lot was fermented and aged separately so the winemaking team could taste barrels individually before the final blend. Three outside critics have scored this bottling: Decanter gave it 93 points, calling it "very ripe" with "youthful blackberry, blueberry, and plum fruits"; Wine Enthusiast named it a Best Buy at 90 points; and James Suckling also scored it 90. The producer also includes the 815 in its Gott for Good program, which by the company's account has helped provide 2.5 million meals through Feeding America since the initiative launched in 2019.

Our call: a solid pick if outside critics carry weight for you; three separate scores, 93 points from Decanter, 90 from Wine Enthusiast's Best Buy call and 90 from James Suckling, back the producer's own account of separately fermented, barrel-monitored fruit from six California regions. Pass if you weigh a wine by shopper opinion instead; no shopper rating has reached our record, so this bottle's case rests entirely on the critics' word and the producer's own numbers.
