Eugene and Catherine Trefethen founded the winery in 1968 in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, as the family tells it, and the same account says every grape in the wine is grown on the estate's own vineyard. Those same September 2026 checks put the price between $64.99 and $70.49.

Trefethen's own page for the current release describes it in the producer's words as 'a wine of depth and dignity,' an expression the winery says reflects everything learned from farming the estate. Its estate page also quotes Saveur's Wine Country coverage on the approach to the property, describing the drive in as passing 'through a magnificent expanse of vineyards' before reaching the winery itself. The producer's site did not surface alcohol content, blend percentages, or tasting notes beyond that description, so those specifics stay unconfirmed here.

Our call: this is the bottle for a shopper who buys on provenance, and the family's own account of estate-grown fruit in the Oak Knoll District is a real reason to reach for it. Pass if you want the crowd's confirmation before spending at this level; no shopper rating has reached our record, so the estate story is carrying the full weight of the price.
