What we make of this bottle
What does the bottle for a toast have to cost? Shoppers ask that in front of the sparkling shelf, with an anniversary or a birthday or a New Year's table in mind, and for this wine our August 2026 checks turned up one answer: $19.99. Aquarius is an Italian sparkling wine from the house of Valdo, sold in a 750 ml bottle.
Valdo has said what goes into it. By the house's account, Aquarius is made from Garganega and Glera grapes and spends three months in the Charmat method before it ages in the bottle. That description comes from the producer itself.
The origin is Italy, the whole country, and our guide to Italian origins treats the word as a wide canvas: vineyards under the Alps in the north, vineyards through the central hill country, vineyards on Mediterranean islands in the south. Altitude, latitude and nearness to the coast shift so much along that stretch that the guide will not give the country one climate. Italy does have sharper names, DOC and DOCG, kept on an official ministry list and each bound to a smaller territory with firmer rules, and this wine's long name includes none of them.
