In our September 2026 checks, the price landed between $27.99 and $29.99. Behind that number is a maker with a long history.
Arnaldo Caprai, the producer, says the winery began in Montefalco in 1971. That is the company's own history rather than a description of this wine.
An Italian label names a long country that grows many grapes in many traditions, and the word Italy on its own does not narrow the spot; a regional designation or a word from the maker is what does that. Arnaldo Caprai's technical sheet supplies that designation here: this bottle is Grecante, made under the Colli Martani Grechetto DOC, a defined sub-zone inside Umbria, from 100 percent Grechetto. The maker's own history sits in Montefalco, where the winery began in 1971.
The producer's technical sheet dates Grecante's first vintage to 1989 and describes vines trained on a spurred cordon and Guyot system, planted at a density of 5,000 per hectare. After fermentation the wine spends three months in steel tanks and at least three more months resting in the bottle before release, with an aging potential the producer puts at three to five years. The sheet's own aroma description calls out “exotic fruit and yellow peach” with “a pleasant chalky note to finish,” the producer's words, and suggests serving the wine around 50 degrees Fahrenheit as an aperitif or alongside seafood, veal or poultry. One gap: neither the product page nor the technical sheet states an alcohol percentage for this wine.
