Frescobaldi Tenuta Ammiraglia Masso Vivo Vermentino Italian White Wine

Vermentino answers to more than one name: it is Rolle in parts of France and Vermentinu on Corsica. It is usually used for dry, still white wine, and it favors warm, sunny ground within reach of the sea. Inter Rhône describes it as light and fresh, with grapefruit, pear, and green almond among its notes, and adds that where it grows and when it is picked can push it fuller or leaner.

Frescobaldi's page for Massovivo, made at its Tenuta Ammiraglia estate in the Maremma, names the wine's inspiration directly: the estate ground is marked by large yellow stones locals call massi vivi, living rocks, and the wine takes its name from them. The technical notes for the current 2025 vintage list Vermentino as the sole grape, matured in stainless steel rather than oak, at 12.5 percent alcohol. The winemaking notes add that after a cold, gentle pressing the wine spends time on its own spent yeast in steel, a step the producer says adds refinement. Frescobaldi's tasting notes describe a straw-yellow wine with floral and citrus notes, hints of sea spray and Mediterranean herbs like thyme and sage, and a palate the producer calls "savory and fresh," its words.

Our call: this suits a shopper drawn to a coastal Tuscan white with a real story behind its name and a producer that publishes vintage-by-vintage technical notes; Frescobaldi names the grape, the stainless-steel aging and the estate's living-rock terroir plainly for the current release. Pass if you want a shopper rating to lean on; none has reached our record for this bottle, so the producer's account is the only read available.
