What does the word Chardonnay actually promise on a bottle like this? Not a single taste, it turns out. Our grape research describes Chardonnay as a white grape that oak can shape in more than one way: left out of oak it comes out lighter, sent through fermenting and aging in oak it comes out weightier. So the word points to the grape, and the taste depends on how the wine was made.
