Seven Deadly Old Vine Zinfandel California Red Wine

Seven Lodi vineyards went into the first release of this wine in 2002, the way 7 Deadly tells it. The grape is Zinfandel, which wine guides say California has grown for a long time. Those same guides note the grape can turn into a red wine, into the pink wine sold as White Zinfandel, or into one part of a blend. Regional authorities describe ripe berry and plum fruit with a touch of spice for Zinfandel, and they tie a fuller body to grapes that reach higher ripeness. Vineyard age can change the result, and this one is sold as an old-vine style.

The wines that carry shopper ratings hold a 4.71 median out of five. This one has not been scored yet, but our September 2026 checks put its price between $14.99 and $21.99.

7 Deadly's own winemaking notes for the current, 2023 vintage describe the wine aged in a mix of American and French oak barrels, which the producer says add structure, depth and layers of spice to the fruit. The grapes come from multiple vineyards across the Lodi AVA, farmed under both head-trained and trellised systems; the producer's regional page describes the appellation's soil as mineral-rich, free-draining, sandy clay, under a Mediterranean-like climate of warm days and cool nights. The Wine Group, which operates 7 Deadly, also holds Lodi Rules certification for the brand, a third-party sustainable-winegrowing program launched in 2005 that covers water use, pest management and land stewardship across the vineyards it draws from.

Our call: reach for it if the old-vine Lodi story and a named, third-party sustainability certification are what you shop on; the producer states both plainly, down to the oak barrel blend on the current vintage. Pass if you buy on the crowd's confirmation; no shopper rating has reached our record yet, so the producer's own account is carrying the case alone.
