What we make of this bottle
Provence sits in the southeast of France. It helps to know what that name actually covers. It is a broad wine region, and inside it are separate protected appellations, among them Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence. Regional guides make the point that the single word Provence can stand for any of these, and that the coast, the inland hills and the higher sites give meaningfully different wines.
AIX itself is a recent arrival. The maker says its founder is the Dutch entrepreneur Eric Kurver, and that the estate's first vintage was 2009. The wider region has a sunny Mediterranean climate with dry summers, and those same guides note a wind, the Mistral, that can dry the air and cool exposed vineyards. If you are comparing Provence bottles on the shelf, the fuller appellation is what marks the more specific place, so that is the thing worth reading. A second September 2026 check came in at $27.99. Regional guides keep the emphasis on one thing: the fuller appellation, not the single word Provence, is what fixes where a wine is grown. The producer's own product page for this bottle answers that question: AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence.
The producer's page also lists the grape blend behind this bottle: Rolle, also called Vermentino, alongside Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc. The winemaking notes describe hand-picked fruit, gentle pressing, a cool fermentation to protect aroma, and time resting on the spent yeast for texture, though the page does not publish an alcohol percentage. AIX's own tasting notes describe white floral and pear aromas with 'lemon, grapefruit, and stone fruits' on the palate and a 'saline' finish, the producer's words. A brand-wide awards page adds outside recognition for this wine specifically: 90 points from Wine Enthusiast in 2025, 90 points from the Catavinum International Wine & Spirits Awards in 2025, and a Gold Medal from the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge for the 2024 vintage.
Our call: worth reaching for if a confirmed appellation and outside critic recognition are what you weigh; AIX names AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and a three-grape blend for this bottle, and the wine has drawn 90-point scores from both Wine Enthusiast and the Catavinum awards in 2025.
