What we make of this bottle
The word French gives the country, not one particular vineyard within it. A French wine can come from Atlantic coast, mountain, or Mediterranean-influenced areas, and a closer account of place takes a narrower name, such as an AOP or IGP, or the producer record. As for the brand, Avaline says the company was founded in 2018 and released its first wines in July 2020.
In our September 2026 checks it was priced between $25.99 and $29.99. With the origin left at the whole country, the grape is the closest guide to the glass. For Pinot Noir, category guides point to red cherry, berry and plum, a paler color, and gentler tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon. The guides add that site and ripeness can shift it from bright and delicate to darker and fuller. We do not have a shopper rating for this bottle yet.
Avaline's own product page names EthicDrinks as the producer behind this Pinot Noir, a different name from the Maison Carrel credit our record has found on other Avaline bottles, and Avaline's own brand-wide winemaker page separately names Ashley Herzberg as 'our winemaker'; none of the three sources reconciles how the credits relate, so we note the discrepancy rather than assign one name as the true maker. What EthicDrinks' own account does add: the producer's founder is described as having 'a passion for the environment,' the producer's words, and EthicDrinks partners with WWF France and Surfrider on Mediterranean plastic pollution, work that earned it a 'most sustainable packaging in wine, 2021' recognition from the French government. The product page lists the wine at 13 percent alcohol, describes it as 'light-bodied with notes of wild raspberry and cherry,' and calls it 'easy to love,' the producer's words. Ingredients are limited to organic grapes, sulfites and yeast.
Our call: this suits a shopper drawn to the organic, sustainability-focused story; EthicDrinks' partnership work on Mediterranean plastic pollution and its sustainable-packaging recognition are real, sourced details behind an otherwise plain French label. Pass if you want one clear, consistent name behind the wine: our record has found at least two different producer credits across Avaline's French bottles, plus a separately named in-house winemaker, and none of the three is reconciled; no shopper rating has reached us either.
