What we make of this bottle
Priced between $6.99 and $12.99 across the ten stores we checked, Barefoot Pinot Grigio was among the least expensive whites in our September 2026 checks. The price is most of the story.
Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape, and official guides say the Italian spelling usually signals the lighter, crisper style. Barefoot's page promises exactly that, a light-bodied wine with a crisp, bright finish and flavors of tart green apple and white peach. Official guides for this grape describe much the same style.
The ratings deserve a careful read. The score works out to 4.26 out of 5 across 1,007 ratings as of August 12, 2026: one of the broadest pools of shopper feedback in our catalog, and an average in its bottom quarter, where the median among rated wines is 4.71.
The producer's page names only California, no alcohol percentage, no vintage. Barefoot Cellars belongs to E. and J. Gallo, per our producer research.
The producer's page adds one detail beyond the tasting notes: it recommends this Pinot Grigio with poultry, pasta and pizza, everyday food rather than anything formal. Barefoot's own account gives the Gallo ownership named above some history: the brand traces itself to 1965, when Davis Bynum made Barefoot Bynum Burgundy in his garage in Albany, California, and took the Barefoot Cellars name and its footprint label in 1986; winemaker Jennifer Wall has led its wines since 1995. Independent industry reporting fills in the scale: Gallo bought the brand in 2005, and case volume has grown from about 600,000 cases a year to more than 14 million, making Barefoot the top-selling wine brand in the country by dollar sales.
Our call: take it as a white among the least expensive we track and one of the most heavily rated wines we cover. Barefoot's own description promises a light body and a crisp finish. Pass if the average is your measure; it sits in the lower half of the rated wines we cover, and the case rests on price and the breadth of feedback, not the score.
