What we make of this bottle
Joel Gott's Pinot Grigio comes from California. The company says Joel Gott started it in 1996, which dates the business rather than this wine. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are two names for the same white grape, and guides say the Grigio spelling usually points to a lighter, crisper style; those guides list pear, apple, citrus and stone fruit among its flavors, and say sweetness can run from dry to gently off-dry.
One shopper has rated it so far, giving it 1 out of five, far too little to judge the wine by. Our September 2026 checks put the shelf price between $11.99 and $21.99, which lands toward the lower end of the whites we cover.
Joel Gott's technical sheet for the current 2024 vintage draws the fruit from four California appellations, Lake County, Monterey, Yolo County and Central Coast, and credits each with a different contribution: volcanic soils in Lake County for complexity, marine-cooled acidity from Monterey, added ripeness from Yolo County and minerality from the Central Coast fruit. The wine is finished at 13.5 percent alcohol with 1.3 grams per litre of residual sugar, a dry style, and made entirely in stainless steel with no oak; the producer calls its approach "reductive," meaning the wine sees limited oxygen contact during fermentation to keep its fruit character intact. Grapes were whole-cluster pressed on arrival at the winery, by the producer's account, a gentler method meant to preserve natural acidity and flavor.
Our call: reasonable if a clear, no-oak technical sheet and a four-region sourcing story are enough to go on; Joel Gott states the alcohol, sugar and stainless-steel winemaking plainly for the current vintage. Pass if you want the crowd's confirmation before you buy; the single rating on our record is one shopper's mark, not a settled read, and no outside critic score appears on the producer's page for this bottling.
