What we make of this bottle
The number to start with is 1876. Beringer Vineyards, the house behind the Main & Vine label, says Frederick and Jacob Beringer founded its winery in St. Helena and produced a first vintage that year. The wine itself plays a small trick: it is a pink pour made from Zinfandel, which is a red grape.
Zinfandel earns the attention. Wine authorities call it a red grape with a long history in California, one that can be made into a red wine, folded into a blend, or made into the pink wine sold as White Zinfandel, which is what this is. Those same authorities describe the grape at full ripeness as tasting of plum, ripe berry, and a little spice, and we do not have a taste description for this particular bottle.
The price is the easy part: in our September 2026 checks it was $6.99 everywhere it turned up, which puts it among the least expensive wines in its group. So, one genuine question is left: with no shopper rating to lean on, does a pink wine from a red grape, made by a house that produced its first vintage in 1876, sound like your kind of pour?
