What we make of this bottle
Who makes a wine called Bezel? By the brand's own terms of use, its website and brand are owned and controlled by Cakebread Cellars. If you are choosing by who stands behind a bottle, that ownership is the firmest fact to go on.
Pinot Noir has thin skins, and the guides that cover it say ripeness and the vineyard site swing the wine between bright and delicate and darker and fuller; for flavor they reach for red cherry, berry and plum, with less color and less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon. We do not have a shopper rating for this bottle. The wine's name includes the San Luis Obispo Coast, and the producer's own account, detailed below, narrows the source further, to Edna Valley within that appellation, and in our September 2026 checks its lowest observed price was $32.99, its highest $33.99.
Bezel's own account narrows the source further. Winemaker Jane Dunkley places the fruit in Edna Valley, inside the San Luis Obispo Coast appellation, and says the region's “cool, maritime climate... allows for slow ripening,” so the crew can “pick at the perfect time to capture the essence of this special terroir.” The 2023 vintage lists 13.5 percent alcohol, aged eight months in French oak. The producer's tasting notes point to ripe plum, black cherry and raspberry, with a trace of cedar and baking spice.
Our call: a reasonable pick if you buy on a stated vineyard story; Bezel places the fruit in Edna Valley, quotes the winemaker on why the site suits Pinot Noir, and gives the exact alcohol and aging. Pass if you want other buyers behind you first; no rating has reached our record, so this is the producer's word alone.
