Under the name sits a plain set of facts: a 750 ml bottle of white wine, the grape Sauvignon Blanc, the origin given as California. The grape is the part worth knowing. Official regional guides describe Sauvignon Blanc as aromatic, with refreshing acidity, most often made dry, its scent and bright acidity leading the way. Bonterra's own tasting notes describe this as an "austere and crisp" Sauvignon Blanc, with a "brilliant, pale green" color, grapefruit and tropical fruit on the nose, and flavors of kumquat, mango and passionfruit balanced by a hint of citrusy lime zest, the producer's words for the crisp, green-leaning end of the grape's range rather than its riper, sweeter extreme. The producer also states the grapes are 100 percent certified organic, grown by what it calls the largest Regenerative Organic Certified winery in the country, with sulfites the label lists at 70 to 90 parts per million, under the 100 ppm ceiling federal rules set for that organic designation. Recent vintages have drawn 90 to 92 points from outside reviewers, including Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling, credited by vintage year on the producer's page. The producer does not publish an alcohol percentage or harvest date for this bottling.

Our call: shoppers have received it well, with an average above the middle of the rated wines we cover, and the producer's own account backs the crowd up, describing a crisp, organically farmed Sauvignon Blanc that outside reviewers have scored in the low 90s across recent vintages. Pass if you need an exact alcohol percentage or harvest date before you buy; the producer publishes neither for this bottling.
