What we make of this bottle
At $11.49 at the lowest of the ten stores we checked in September 2026, this Chianti sits among the more affordable reds we track. The name on the front, though, points to a real address.
Cavaliere d'Oro comes from Castello di Gabbiano, an estate the Chianti Classico producers' consortium records as part of Treasury Wine Estates since 2000, farming more than 160 hectares of vineyard in Chianti Classico, Tuscany.
That address rewards a second look. Our regional research keeps Chianti and Chianti Classico apart as two protected names with different rules, so a wine labeled Chianti, as this one is, is not the same category as the Chianti Classico where those vineyards lie. Both are built on Sangiovese, our research adds, though we do not have a confirmed grape makeup for this particular bottle. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine.

Both names point to Sangiovese-led Tuscan wine, but they have different boundaries and production rules. Reading the full label is the first step because the two names should not be collapsed into one legal category.
What the name means
Chianti DOCG and Chianti Classico DOCG are separate protected Tuscan designations. A bottle labeled Chianti Classico is not simply a smaller wording variant of Chianti.
How grapes grow here
The broad Chianti zone crosses central Tuscan hills, while Chianti Classico occupies higher inland country between Florence and Siena. Elevation, slope and exposure create local differences within both designations.
What lies under the vines
Clay and limestone are common, with sandstone, marl and stony ground varying by district. Neither designation reduces the whole area to one soil.
