What we make of this bottle
Paso Robles sits in San Luis Obispo County on California's Central Coast, a warm, dry-by-day growing area where the nights turn much cooler as marine air pushes inland through gaps in the Santa Lucia Range. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. The grape is Cabernet Sauvignon, which our grape research calls a red variety found in many regions, firmly built more often than not and a frequent partner in blends. In our September 2026 checks the cheapest we found it was $26.99.
Regional authorities name black currant, cherry and plum among its common fruit references, with noticeable tannin and, from oak, a possible touch of spice, and they note that ripeness, climate and winemaking can leave a Cabernet lean and herbal at one turn or full and fruit-forward at another. Paso Robles is a federally recognized growing area, and eleven named districts divide it, so the name spans many different growing conditions rather than one patch of vineyard. Paso Robles is a federally recognized American Viticultural Area in San Luis Obispo County on California's Central Coast. Eleven named districts divide the larger AVA.
How grapes grow here
Warm, dry summer days are followed by much cooler nights. The Templeton Gap and other openings in the Santa Lucia Range pull marine air inland, with the strength of that cooling changing from west to east.
What lies under the vines
More than 30 soil series occur in the AVA. Calcareous shale and other marine sedimentary rocks are important, alongside granite-derived, volcanic, sandy, loamy and clay-rich ground.
