This is a Chardonnay from California, in the standard 750 ml bottle. Checking prices in September 2026 across seven stores, the lowest we observed was $12.49. That lowest price puts it toward the more affordable end of the white wines we track.

The company behind it, Edna Valley Vineyard, says it has made Chardonnay since 1980 from its San Luis Obispo County vineyards, first planted by its founder, Jack Niven. The average shopper rating is 5 out of five, and the number of shopper ratings so far is 1.

For the grape itself, category guides begin with ripeness: citrus and apple sit at the cooler end, stone fruit or tropical fruit in riper examples. They also say oak and yeast contact can add toast, spice and a rounder texture. At the shelf, the name alone will not tell you how this particular bottle was made, since guides say oak and yeast contact shape the style. In those same September 2026 checks, the highest price we observed was $21.99. On the oak and the weight, the guides are careful: those are winemaking choices rather than a guarantee.

Edna Valley Vineyard's own product page adds the tasting note behind the label: aromas of green apple and white peach layered with toast and lemon zest, in what the producer calls a graceful, beautifully complex reflection of California's coast, finishing long. The producer's site currently lists this Chardonnay two ways at once, a 2020 vintage on its main Central Coast listing page and a 2021 vintage swatch selectable on that same product page, a detail we flag rather than resolve since the shelf label alone will not tell a shopper which vintage is in hand.

Our call: buy it for the producer's own account of decades of Chardonnay from Jack Niven's San Luis Obispo vineyards, backed by a price toward the affordable end of the whites we track. Pass if you want more than one shopper's word on it; the 1 rating on record, 5 out of five, is one shopper's score, not yet a pattern, and the vintage on the producer's own site is unsettled between 2020 and 2021.
