What we make of this bottle
Jordan Winery dates itself to 1972, the year it says Tom and Sally Jordan founded it. This is their Cabernet Sauvignon, made in California.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a red grape grown across many regions, and our grape research notes it often makes firmly built wines and shows up in red blends. For flavor, that research points to black currant, cherry and plum, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak, and it adds that ripeness, climate and winemaking can leave a Cabernet lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led.
Jordan's own account of the wine goes well beyond the founding date. This Cabernet Sauvignon is always blended with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec, the classic Bordeaux varieties, sourced from the Alexander Valley's mountain-edge, rocky-soiled vineyards; the producer says only the best fruit each vintage makes the final bottle, with the rest sold off rather than blended in. The wine spends about a year in oak barrels from a single French cooperage, Tonnellerie Nadalie, before the winemaking team reassembles the top lots into the final blend, and the producer states it uses only its top 3 percent grade of natural cork, guaranteed free of the fault that causes cork taint. Jordan also says only two winemakers have led the cellar since the label's 1976 debut vintage; Rob Davis held the job alone from 1976 to 2019. On Jordan's own site, the current 2021 vintage is priced at $60, though that page's own short description confusingly refers to 'the 2020 vintage,' a copy inconsistency we have not resolved.
We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. Across the four stores we checked in September 2026, the price ranged from $64.99 to $79.99.
Our call: this suits a shopper who wants the full paper trail before spending at this price; blend, vineyard, barrel program and cork grade are all on record from a winery that has changed winemakers only once since 1976. Pass if you want a shopper rating to back that story; none has reached ours, and a stray copy error on the producer's own product page, a 2021-labeled bottle describing 'the 2020 vintage,' is a reminder that even a detailed account can use a proofread.
