What we make of this bottle
The name runs long, but it never gets around to how the wine actually drinks. What La Crema will say is about the company: it puts its founding at 1979 in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley, and the winery now belongs to Jackson Family Wines. That is the company's own history, not a note on this Cabernet Sauvignon. In our September 2026 checks the wine showed up at three stores.
La Crema's own product page for the current 2023 vintage fills out what the company history leaves out. The wine leads with Cabernet Sauvignon, filled out with Merlot and Petit Verdot, and the producer explains the blend's logic: estate fruit from Alexander Valley contributes darker, denser tannin, while Merlot from other mountain and valley vineyards softens the wine and rounds out the finish. The bottle finishes at 14.5 percent alcohol, carries a Certified California Sustainable Winery designation, and has drawn a 91-point score from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. One label detail is worth a note: though the wine is named for Sonoma County, the producer's own page lists the appellation on the label as simply California, a naming nuance we have not further resolved.
Our grape research describes Cabernet Sauvignon as a red grape grown in many regions that often makes firmly built wines and often turns up in red blends. It points to regional authorities who name black currant, cherry and plum as common fruit references, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak; ripeness, climate and winemaking can send a bottle lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led. None of that speaks to this particular bottle. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. Across those same September 2026 checks the price ranged from $32.99 to $59.99.
Our call: this suits a shopper who wants a blend explained and an outside score to lean on; La Crema names the grapes, states the sustainability certification, and the wine carries a 91-point score from Wine Enthusiast. Pass if the exact appellation on the label matters to you: the producer's own page lists California rather than Sonoma County for a wine that carries the county's name, and no shopper rating has reached our record to settle the rest.
