The store listing does not name the grapes in this red blend; what can be traced of the Magistrate name behind it is taken up further down. The origin is clearer: Paso Robles, on California's Central Coast. Guides to Paso Robles describe a very large growing area rather than one uniform valley, where warm, dry summer days give way to much cooler nights and gaps in the Santa Lucia mountains pull marine air inland; how strong that cooling is changes from west to east, and its eleven named districts do not all grow grapes the same way. The lowest price we observed, in our September 2026 checks, was $12.99.

A winemaker is on record, though the wine's own tasting profile is not settled. Kip Lorenzetti is named as Magistrate's winemaker on a wine-and-cheese pairing site, Corks & Cheers, not on a Magistrate site of its own; no official Magistrate winery website could be found, and the domain magistratewine.com now returns as permanently gone. The same source describes Magistrate as a fifteen-year-old wine family with more than 150 competition awards, aiming, in its own words, for wines that are unpretentious yet still show what Paso Robles' land can do, a claim that lines up with how guides describe the appellation's very large day-to-night temperature swing, days that can reach 110 degrees giving way to nights in the 40s, a swing guides say concentrates fruit flavor while building firmer tannin. One honest conflict: Corks & Cheers published two separate pages for what should be the same wine, and they disagree; one calls it the "Magistrate Red Blend - Paso Robles" with blackberry, plum, cherry and cocoa notes, the other calls it the "Paso Restitution Red Blend" with anise, herb, clove and cedar notes that do not overlap with the first at all. Because the two accounts do not agree on the name or the flavor, neither page's specific tasting notes are being treated as settled fact for this bottle.
