This Chardonnay names California as its origin and carries a family name with decades behind it. McManis Family Vineyards says Ron and Jamie McManis founded the winery in 1990.
Chardonnay is a white grape made into both still and sparkling wine, and it can be kept light without oak or given more weight when it is fermented and aged in oak. Official category guides place citrus and apple at the cooler end and stone fruit or tropical fruit in riper examples. The guides also say oak, with time on the spent yeast, can bring the wine toast, spice and a rounder texture. Those features come from cellar choices rather than any guarantee.
