What we make of this bottle
Raeburn says Derek Benham started the winery in the Russian River Valley in 2014, and this is a California Cabernet Sauvignon sold under that name. Across the stores we checked in September 2026, it ranged from $21.99 to $29.99.
Cabernet Sauvignon grows across many wine regions, and our grape research notes it often makes firmly built wines and is a common part of red blends. Regional authorities point to black currant, cherry, and plum as common fruit notes, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak. They add that how ripe the fruit gets, the climate, and the winemaking can shape a Cabernet lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led, which is why two wines from the same grape can taste very different. The producer's tasting notes describe “juicy fruit notes, fine tannins and a muscular mid-palate,” with layered plum, dark cherry and vanilla leading into a long, balanced finish, and the 2023 vintage carries a 92-point score from critic James Suckling, published on the producer's own page and dated December 2025.
