What we make of this bottle
Spyglass's own site names the ground behind this one: Paso Robles. In our September 2026 checks the shelf price landed between $19.88 and $21.88.
We do not have a shopper rating for this wine. The grape it does name is Cabernet Sauvignon, which our grape research describes as a red that often makes firmly built wines and shows up frequently in blends. Regional authorities who write about it reach for black currant, cherry and plum, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak, while ripeness and cellar work can shape whether a given Cabernet reads lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led.
Where those grapes were grown is the part left open, though the hand behind them is not: Spyglass says Amanda Gorter makes its Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
Spyglass's own site fills in the technical picture for the Paso Robles Cabernet: 13.5 percent alcohol, and a residual sugar reading of .21 percent, which in plain terms is a dry wine. The winery ferments it in stainless steel, then gives it six months of time in oak, in barrels the site states are 100 percent American oak. Its own tasting notes describe "ripe cherry aromas followed by licorice and sweet oak," with "bright red fruits" and "structured tannins" on a long finish, and the bottle carries a silver medal, per the producer. Paso Robles itself is a large, warm-days-cool-nights appellation approved in 1983, with soils the site describes as running from granite to volcanic rock across elevations from about 630 to nearly 2,000 feet.
Our call: worth considering if a named appellation, a stated grape and the producer's own numbers are what you want before buying; Spyglass names Paso Robles, states 13.5 percent alcohol, and backs the bottle with a silver medal it credits to the wine. Pass if you want a shopper rating to weigh in too; none has reached our record, so the producer's own account is the whole case here.
