In our September 2026 checks, this Spyglass Pinot Noir started at $19.88. Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned red grape. Regional category guides describe red cherry, berry and plum for it, marking a lighter color and less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, and they say site and ripeness can move it from bright and delicate toward something darker and fuller. Spyglass says Amanda Gorter makes both its Cabernet Sauvignon and this Pinot Noir, and names Monterey as the fruit's home.

That Monterey fruit comes with numbers attached, by Spyglass's own account: 15 percent alcohol and a residual sugar reading of .3 percent, on the sweeter edge of dry. The wine also spends time in oak, 15 to 20 percent new French oak by the producer's account, a lighter touch than the Cabernet Sauvignon gets. Spyglass's tasting notes describe "bright aromas of ripe raspberries, cranberry, and baking spice," with "light tannin and an elegant finish," and the site credits Monterey's coastal climate and varied ground for that lighter style.

Our call: a fair pick if raspberry-and-cranberry Pinot character and a named appellation are enough to go on; Spyglass names Monterey, states 15 percent alcohol, and describes a light-tannin, elegant style in its own words. Pass if you want a shopper rating behind the purchase; none has reached our record for this bottle.
