The producer's technical page for the current vintage places the wine in the Central Coast appellation at 14 percent alcohol, made with a combination of stainless steel tank and American oak barrel fermentation, aged five months total, with the barrel-fermented portion aged on the spent yeast and stirred monthly to build texture. The producer's own tasting notes describe “subtle oak nuances of sweet cream and vanilla” alongside “crisp Gala apple” and “fresh-cut pear and lemon curd,” and the producer calls this bottling “the cornerstone of the Wente Chardonnay portfolio.”

Our call: a sensible everyday pick if you want a named appellation, Central Coast, and a producer that publishes its own oak and aging choices in detail, at a price whose low end already lands on the more affordable side of the white wines we cover.
