What we make of this bottle

The small twist with this one is the grape. It is a blush, a rosé by color, yet it is made from Chardonnay, a white grape used for both still and sparkling wine. For Chardonnay poured as a white, category guides describe citrus and apple in cooler settings and stone or tropical fruit when the grapes ripen further, with oak and time spent on the yeast that can add toast or a rounder body only when the winemaker reaches for them. This bottle, though, is a rosé, so that range describes the grape in general rather than the wine in the glass.
