Cakebread's tech sheet for the 2023 vintage places this Chardonnay's fruit in Carneros, the cool, fog-blanketed district at Napa Valley's southern edge, grown in what the producer calls Haire Loam soils that keep vine vigor in check. The grapes were harvested at night between September 16 and October 10, 2023, then fermented in French oak and aged eight months with periodic stirring of the spent yeast for texture, in a barrel mix the sheet lists as 30 percent new oak and 70 percent neutral. Winemaker Niki Williams, also behind Cakebread's Cabernet Sauvignon, oversaw the blend, and the finished wine lists at 13.6 percent alcohol.
