What we make of this bottle
What does a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc give you before the cork comes out? The grape is Sauvignon Blanc, a white known for refreshing acidity and clear aroma, usually made dry, with sweetness and oak use that vary from maker to maker. Napa Valley itself has been a recognized American wine region since 1981, only about thirty miles long, with seventeen smaller appellations now inside it; regional guides describe a dry Mediterranean climate there, cooled in the south by San Pablo Bay and by fog that lowers temperatures overnight.
Among the wines shoppers have scored, the middle rating is 4.71, and we do not have a shopper rating for this wine. In our September 2026 checks it was priced from $28.99 to $29.99. As for the winery, Rutherford Hill says it was established in 1972 and bought by the Terlato family in 1996.
Rutherford Hill's own product page for the current 2024 vintage adds the blend behind the varietal name: 90 percent Sauvignon Blanc with 10 percent Sauvignon Gris, part fermented in stainless steel and part given time in French oak, finishing at 14.5 percent alcohol. The winery's tasting note describes "a lively bouquet of lemon zest, grapefruit, and white peach" layered with "inviting notes of toasted coconut and vanilla," the producer's words, crediting the oak time for that coconut and vanilla character. A wine-trade publication, Tasting Panel magazine, scored the 2024 vintage 93 points.
Our call: a fair choice for a shopper who wants the details in writing, a confirmed 90-10 Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris blend, Napa Valley fruit off Napa Green-certified estate vineyards, and a 93-point score from a wine-trade publication. Pass if you want a shopper crowd behind that score instead; no shopper rating has reached our record for this bottle.
