Rioja’s name does real legal work, but a generic Tempranillo is not automatically Crianza. Classification must come from the label, not from the region’s reputation for oak aging.

What to expect in the glass
The Rioja authority describes red and dark fruit, medium acidity and a structure suited to aging. Oak can add spice and savory notes, while younger versions can keep the fruit more direct.
