What we make of this bottle
This wine takes its name from a place rather than a grape. Marques de Caceres says its winery sits in Cenicero, in Spain's Rioja region, a project the Forner family began building around 1970.
Because the name points to the region and not to the fruit, which grape or grapes go into the bottle is not something we can confirm here.
In our September 2026 checks it was priced $15.99 to $29.49.
Marques de Caceres's own history page fills in the family's longer arc behind that 1970 founding: the Forners had made wine in Valencia since 1920, Enrique Forner rebuilt the business in France after the Spanish Civil War, and by 1963 the family owned two Bordeaux chateaux before he returned to Spain in 1968 and settled in Rioja, working with the Bordeaux oenologist Emile Peynaud to bring practices like cold fermentation and aging in new French oak into the winery. The producer says Enrique's daughter, Cristina Forner, has led the company since 1983, and that it now exports more than half its production to over 130 countries. None of this settles which Rioja wine sits in this particular bottle. Rioja reds are classified into aging tiers such as Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva, each aged for a different length of time, and our research could not confirm which tier this retail bottle is, so we are not importing any one tier's technical numbers as fact here.

Rioja’s name does real legal work, but a generic Tempranillo is not automatically Crianza. Classification must come from the label, not from the region’s reputation for oak aging.
