On origin, the name points to Rully, but the closest place we can confirm is France, a country of many climates and rules; placing a wine more precisely takes an appellation or the producer's own account. As for the grape, official category guides place citrus and apple at the cooler end and stone fruit in riper examples, with any oak and its toast decided in the cellar rather than promised by the grape. The two stores we checked in September 2026 showed it between $52.49 and $57.99.

Domaine Chanson's own site names the specific vineyard behind this wine, in what it calls a Cellar Logbook that runs vintage by vintage. The current release comes from 9 hectares on the hillsides of Rully, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, on clay and limestone soil, across two named climats, Chatalienne and Fromanges, land the producer says has been in conversion to organic farming since 2024. The producer's own tasting note for the current vintage describes a pale gold color, fresh floral and citrus aromas with a hint of mineral, and a fresh finish; the wine spends 9 months in oak on the producer's own account.

The same logbook lists outside scores by vintage, the critics' numbers, not the producer's own claim: the 2023 release drew 92 points from Wine Enthusiast and 91 from James Suckling, and the 2019 release drew 90 from James Suckling, 87 from Burghound and one star in the Guide Hachette. The producer's page also carries an unresolved slip worth naming honestly: the write-ups for the 2020 and 2018 vintages each close with a sentence describing 'red wines' rather than this white Chardonnay, language that reads as carried over from a red-wine vintage page and left uncorrected on the producer's own site.

Our call: this is a bottle for a shopper who buys on documented terroir, and Domaine Chanson delivers that in detail, naming the exact climats and soil behind the current release and publishing vintage-by-vintage outside scores going back to 2017.
