Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon

The grape is right there in the name: Cabernet Sauvignon. Our grape research says Cabernet often makes firmly built wines and is commonly used in red blends. For flavor the guides we read point to black currant, cherry and plum, with noticeable tannin and possible spice from oak, while ripeness and climate can leave it lean and herbal in style or broad and fruit-led. In our September 2026 checks the low end was $59.99.

Frank Family Vineyards says Rich Frank started the winery in Napa Valley in 1992, a date that belongs to the company rather than to anything in this bottle. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine.

The high price in those same September 2026 checks was $91.49.

Frank Family's own technical sheet for the current 2022 vintage names the blend precisely: 87 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, picked between September 17 and September 30, 2022, and finished at 14.5 percent alcohol. The producer says the fruit comes from its own Benjamin and S&J estate vineyards along with growers it names, including Beckstoffer, Red Barn, Quarry and Sangiacomo, and that its Napa Valley Cabernet ages two years in French oak barrels split evenly across new, once-used and twice-used wood, a mix the winemaking team says is chosen for balance rather than the heaviest possible oak stamp. James Suckling scored the 2022 vintage 92 points, calling it "full-bodied, blended from different parts of the valley floor, mouth-filling, generous, and nicely concentrated," the critic's words.

Our call: this suits a shopper who wants a fully documented Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, since Frank Family names its blend percentages, harvest dates and barrel program down to the mix of new and used French oak, and backs the current vintage with a 92-point score from James Suckling. Pass if shopper feedback matters more to you than a producer's own account and a critic's score; no rating has reached our record for this bottle yet.
